Upon this Rock I will build My Church!
Revelation given through the Holy Spirit!
Upon This Rock
Be a Rock! Matthew 16: 16-18 - And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Yahushua was not saying He was going to build His Church on Peter, but on what Peter had confessed to Him. What was this that Peter confessed? And Simon Peter answered and said, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Yahushua was saying on this rock, this truth, this belief in who He was, which points back to a person confessing Yahushua is the Son of God to another person on this earth to work the mechanics of salvation, was and still is the rock in which the Church is to be built upon.
How else can the Church of God be built unless they be truly born again? This is how a Church truly grows in the Spirit realm. This is how true change comes in a person, towns, states, and nations. This is how territory for the Lord’s Kingdom is established as more are born into the Kingdom by the Spirit of God.
But there is another facet to this building which is “how” the Church is to be built upon this same rock. Yahushua gave the answer plainly when he said, “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” The rock Yahushua spoke of His Church is to be built upon is also from Divine revelation by the Spirit, and not by flesh and blood. Flesh and blood cannot build the Church Yahushua is coming back for, but only by Divine revelation through the Holy Ghost. This is the only reason Peter knew what to say and how to answer the Lord in the first place. We see many churches today have been built up by flesh and blood and not by Divine revelation from the Holy Ghost. This is caused by many ditches of ignorance, mainly by the lack of knowledge in God’s ways, as to why the Church has even gotten to the point where it is today. But I am not going into all that here.
We can clearly see by what the Lord said that understanding and doing “His sayings” the gates of hell CANNOT prevail against His church if they build upon the rock he set, which is Himself, in these ways! Many churches, mainly the Catholic Church, have misunderstood these scriptures and have said that the Church was to be built off of the Apostle Peter and what he did in the earth. This is incorrect.
To say that Peter was the “rock” that the Kingdom of God was to be built upon is in great error. For a rock had to be laid, a cornerstone, a sure foundation to legally build the Church of the living God in the earth. Peter himself could not perform this task legally in setting an unshakable foundation for the Church to be built upon and have it also stand legally in the courts of heaven. For no other foundation can be laid than that which is laid, and this foundation, this rock, this
cornerstone is Yahushua!
We see a lot through scripture how Yahushua’s ministry, His teachings, was based upon laying a foundation and rock to be built upon. This is what the Apostles who were chosen by the election of grace did after Yahushua was resurrected and glorified and then taken up into heaven. For the Apostle Paul writes to the Corinthians (who were Gentiles) in 1 Corinthians 3:10-11 -
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Paul said “he laid the foundation,” not that he was the foundation himself. He laid what he had been taught and shown by the Spirit of God, and not by flesh and blood.
We see in scripture how we are to build our “house” upon the “rock.” Your house is what you believe in and walk in, right or wrong. Let’s look:
Matthew 7:24-25 - Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. This is the same rock Yahushua said He was going to build His Church upon. A rock of teaching and truth that cannot be changed, cannot be moved or destroyed, cannot be broken into pieces, but is firmly set.
